Vachetta Leather: The Luxury Classic (That Actually Likes the Sun)

If you’ve ever looked at a high-end designer bag and wondered why the handles turned from a pale cream to a rich, toasted caramel over the years, you’ve already met miss Vachetta.

Alongside my favorite Crazy Horse leather, Vachetta is another foundation of almost everything I create - natural (untreated) for top layers usually and Oiled for the heavy duty work. But what makes Vachetta so special?

Well, yes! Vachetta is a premium type of vegetable-tanned grain leather. It’s left very natural, meaning it hasn’t been smothered in heavy industrial paints or plastics. It’s "naked" leather in its purest, most beautiful form.

Vachetta is also famous for its patina, but it’s different from the rugged scuffs of Crazy Horse.

Standard Vachetta can be a bit of a "drama queen" (the bad way 😑) when it comes to water spots or raindrops. That’s why I use Oiled Vachetta. By choosing a version that has been pre-treated with natural oils:

- It’s much more resistant to stains and water.

- It feels buttery soft from the very first second you put it on.

- It keeps its strength and flexibility for a lifetime.

It's basically like taking the best parts of Crazy Horse and add them in Vachetta, creating a hybrid that is both resilient and fancy (yay)

I personally love both, which is why I use them as the "bones" of my shop, but if you ask Kate - the wearer, not the maker, I am totally a Crazy Horse type.
